Infrared Garage Heater

Shop for an Infrared Garage Heater

An infrared garage heater may be a good solution to keeping you warm this winter. Garages are used for many things other than housing cars. They become workroom for those who like doing various DIY projects, a place where you can make small repairs to items in your home, and a haven for those times you just want a little privacy.
However, for those of you who live in areas that get quite cold during the weather, your garage can become an uncomfortable place to be after only a few minutes unless you have some type of heater to keep out the numbing winter cold. Infrared garage heaters are one of the most economical types of heaters to use in your garage.

The Difference Between Infrared Heaters And Most Other Types Of Heaters

The main difference between an infrared garage heater and most other types of heaters is the way it heats. Most heaters are designed to heat the air and then the warm air warms you. This means unless you keep the heat on in your garage constantly, you will have to turn on the heat in your garage and then go back inside and wait for the garage to warm up, which depending on the size of your garage and how cold it is, not only means a long wait but, also a lot of wasted energy while the heater is warming the air.

Infrared heaters on the other hand don't heat the air. They work the same way as the sun's infrared rays do, heating the objects directly in their path instead of heating the air. This means that you can turn on an infrared heater, stand under it and start feeling the warmth almost immediately as you and everything in the heaters path will be warmed by the infrared rays. The heated objects, will then after a time, begin heating the air in the garage. It is a very energy saving way to heat that space that you don't need to keep heated 24/7. Of course, just how fast an infrared heater heats things up depends on the size of the heater and whether or not it has a fan built in that helps to spread the heat.

What Is The Best Type Of Infrared Heater For A Garage?

Infrared garage heaters come in a variety of sizes from portable to large wall or ceiling heaters. They also use various types of fuel including Propane, natural gas and electricity. Deciding what kind of Infrared heater to choose is a matter of personal taste, convenience and what works best in the space you have.

While portable infrared heaters are great for small places, they are not likely to do much to keep that 2 car garage very warm, for that you need a heater that can put out around 30,000 BTUs. Portable heaters also have the added disadvantage of taking up floor space, which can be a real inconvenience when you are using part of your garage for a workspace.

However, I did find this Cart Type Heavy Duty Portable Electric Infrared Garage Heater that is really hot in more ways than one! It runs on 220 volt supply and puts out a whopping 20,450 BTUs. Cart Type Heavy Duty Portable Electric Infrared Garage Heater

A large infrared heater is probably the best choice for heating a 2 car garage and having the heater in a location where it can heat a wide area quickly. It is also extremely convenient as you don't have to worry about tripping over the heater itself or anything connected to it.

As for whether to choose an infrared garage heater that is fueled by natural gas, electricity or fuel gas that depends on your own personal choice and what may be available. Fuel gas is readily available in tanks, however, keeping them filled and ready to use when you need them can often be a hassle. Especially if you run out of fuel to keep your heaters going in the middle of working on a large project. Fuel gas is also somewhat expensive.

Natural gas, is probably the cheapest and often the most convenient form of heat. However, there are some areas that simply don't have access to natural gas so if you live in such an area this may not be an option that is available to you.

Electricity is readily available, but, can be expensive for those of you who want to spend hours a day every day in your garage. However, keep in mind that the same problems of fuel exist for all kinds of heaters and since infrared heaters are the most economical type of heater heating your garage will cost a bit less regardless of the type of fuel heater you purchase. Infrared heaters are economical, easy to use and convenient. They are great for heating your garage or other outbuilding where you need heat on a part time basis.
